In Deuteronomy, chapter 1, beginning at verse 5, “On this side Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to declare this law, saying, The Lord our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount: Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.
“Behold, I have set the land before you.” Please notice that he said, “I have set the land.” Everybody say, the land. (Response) “I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land.” Everybody say, possess the land. (Response) Now say it three times. (Response) “Which the Lord sware unto your fathers.” Please notice who He swore it to, “unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.”
I want you to hold your place there and turn to Galatians 3:29, and let us notice what is said there about the seed of Abraham and who they are. In Galatians, Paul is speaking from the 3rd chapter and the 29th verse, he says, “And if ye be Christ’s” … who in this audience belongs to Jesus Christ? … “then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
Now look back at Deuteronomy again, let’s see, at verse 8, “Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.”
Now who is the seed of Abraham? The people who have Christ. That’s us sitting right here in this building. “The Lord your God,” let’s see, verse 9, I skipped that. “And I spake unto you at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone: The Lord your God hath multiplied you, and, behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.”
Now the text is in verse 11. “The Lord God of your fathers make you a thousand times so many more as ye are, and bless you, as he hath promised.” Now notice again in Galatians 3:19 that, “If ye be Christ’s, then are you Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
