Apparently it looked like little Chet would not live. But when Oral Roberts prayed the prayer of faith, little Chet was not only healed, but today he’s married, with a family, in Mobile, Alabama. I want you to meet him up close and personal and see that God is still healing today. Just watch.
CHET WILSON: God worked through Oral and healed me.
OR: How many more hands will be rose, “Brother Roberts, I want my soul prayed for in that prayer tonight?”
ANNOUNCER: And on that night, three-year-old Chet Maples received his healing. Although he was too young to remember, his mother shared the details of the healing with Chet and his wife, Lee. In 1960, Chet was medically diagnosed with a brain tumor. When operated, doctors stated that the tissue removed was medulloblastoma. Unable to surgically remove the entire tissue, young Chet was given a few months to live.
Desperately wanting to save her son’s live, Chet’s mother took him to one of Oral’s tent crusades.
CHET: My mother was raised a Baptist and she said she didn’t really not that she didn’t believe that the Lord could heal, but they didn’t really teach that in her church. They didn’t really teach physical healing. But my father was raised in Pentecostal Assembly of God, and when I became sick, my father was a Merchant Marine, he was out at sea, so when I became sick his family, you know, were after my mother to take me to Oral Roberts or anybody that was close around that was like a faith healer. And she didn’t want to do it. She was scared, you know.
And her brother lived in Norfolk, Virginia, well, Virginia Beach, actually, and she took me up there, me and my brother and my sister. And the very first day we was there, we got there like late one night, and the next day, the next morning, and she was reading the morning paper, and she opened the paper and she saw where there was a big advertisement that Oral Roberts was in town.
And she called I don’t think she called, I think he called her at the same time from his job to tell her, “Guess what he had saw.” He was going to work. So they felt like that was the finger of God.
MRS. MAPLES: She said that he was really ill from the cobalt treatments that they’d been giving him, and he had no hair. And the next morning after she finally got him up to Oral Roberts after the third night, his uncle had a habit of coming through the kitchen and patting on the kids on the head.
